Camelot

Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe’s last Broadway hit was Camelot, which opened at the Majestic Theatre on December 3, 1960 and ran for 873 performances. The star studded cast featured Julie Andrews (Guenevere), Richard Burton (Arthur), Robert Coote (King Pellinore), John Cullum (Sir Dindan), Robert Goulet (Lancelot Du Lac), and Roddy McDowell (Mordred). Camelot was nominated for five 1961 Tony Awards winning four.  Richard Burton was the 1961 Tony Award winner for Best Actor in a Musical, Julie Andrews was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical, Oliver Smith won Best Scenic Design for a Musical, Adrian and Tony Duquette won for Best Costume Design, and Franz Allers won Best Conductor and Musical Director. Robert Goulet won the 1961 Theatre World Award.
