A VISIT TO A SMALL PLANET

A Visit to a Small Planet debuted at the Schubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut on January 16, 1957 prior to making its Broadway debut. Totaling 388 performances on Broadway at the Booth Theatre, New York City, the two act production ran from February 1957 to January 1958. The Gore Vidal written, Cyril Richard directed, and George Axelrod and Clinton Wilder produced science-fiction comedy of an alien enamored with Earth life earned three 1957 Tony Award nominations. In addition to directing the production Cyril Richards starred as Kreton and was nominated for the Tony Best Actor in Play Award. Eddie Mayehoff was nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play and Oliver Smith was nominated for Best Scenic Design. Abe Feder served the production as Lighting Designer.
