A Message From Chris Warren, New Branch Manager At The South Columbus Public Library
In
November 2009, I accepted the position of branch manager at the South
Columbus Public Library. Before coming to Columbus, I worked in reference
and circulation for the Gwinnett County Public Library, where I also
planned programs and activities for teens and young adults. Public
libraries have always had a special place in my heart and I am very
excited to accept this opportunity in South Columbus.
The South Columbus Public Library is an invaluable resource for the community: a place where children and adults can develop literacy skills, where people can access entire worlds of information in print and online and a space where people can interact, learn, and create. Within my first couple weeks on the job, we have already reorganized our collections to better showcase some of our outstanding resources, including Spanish-language materials, African-American literature, and popular fiction for young adults. I am also planning to continue our extensive programs and activities for children and to revitalize our outreach to teens and senior citizens.
Located between Eddy Middle School and South Columbus Elementary School and down the street from Fort Benning, the South Columbus Public Library is uniquely situated to benefit people of all ages, and it is my sincere hope that we offer something for everyone who comes through our doors. Whatever you're looking for - help with homework, assistance with your job search, or simply a good book to read - the staff and I look forward to seeing you at the South Columbus Public Library!
About the branch:
The South Columbus Branch Library is conveniently located between
Eddy Middle School and South Columbus Elementary School.
Our patrons are adults, parents with children, daycare centers and
school aged students. Every weekday the library offers creative activities
for the school aged children. In addition, preschool story times are
held Wednesdays and Thursdays.
A GED class meets at the library twice a week, as well as an after
school mentoring program and an ESOL class that meets weekly.
There is a heavy interest in educational assistance, job hunting and
personal betterment among our patrons. The staff work diligently to
provide information, assistance and a safe haven for customers.
